Natural vs. manufactured
Natural stone offers unmatched depth and variation and lasts indefinitely. Manufactured stone is lighter, more consistent, easier to work around openings, and less expensive. Both look excellent when the pattern layout and mortar joints are done carefully — layout is what separates good veneer from great veneer.
Installation matters
Proper veneer needs a weather-resistive barrier, lath, a scratch coat and correct flashing at terminations. Shortcuts there cause moisture problems years later, no matter how good the stone looks.
