What Does a Paver Patio Cost in Rhode Island?

July 14, 2026 · 6 min read

A straightforward breakdown of what drives paver patio pricing in Rhode Island — size, material, access, grading and the base work you can't see.

The most common question we get on a first phone call is simple: what is this going to cost? The honest answer is that a paver patio is priced by the square foot, but the square-foot number moves a lot depending on what is happening under and around the patio.

Below is how we think about pricing when we walk a property, so you can judge any estimate you receive — ours included.

Size and shape

Bigger patios usually cost less per square foot because mobilization, excavation and base delivery get spread over more area. Complex shapes with lots of curves, inlays or multiple levels cost more per square foot because of cutting and layout time.

Material selection

Standard concrete pavers sit at the affordable end. Premium tumbled and textured lines, large-format slabs, natural bluestone and granite treads move the number up. Borders, contrasting bands and permeable pavers also affect material cost.

The base — where the money actually goes

A patio is only as good as what is beneath it. We excavate, install and compact processed stone in lifts, then screed a bedding layer before a single paver is set. Skipping base depth is the fastest way to a cheap price and a sunken patio in three years.

  • Excavation depth based on soil type
  • Geotextile fabric where soils are soft
  • Compacted processed stone in controlled lifts
  • Proper pitch away from the house for drainage

Access and site conditions

If a machine can reach the work area, labor drops. If everything has to be wheelbarrowed through a narrow side yard, hours go up. Ledge, tree roots, old concrete removal and poor drainage all add scope.
